Who is Andy Krieger?

Andrew Krieger is a legendary trader who is best known for the $300 million move he made in the currency market in the wake of Black Monday in 1987.

Andrew went to the University of Pennsylvania and got his MBA from Wharton School of business; straight after graduating, he was hired by Salomon Brothers.

Banker’s Trust spotted his talent and decided to take him on. They entrusted him with a war chest of $700 million which was $650 million more than his peers got to trade with.

And he repaid their trust in 1987 when he made a move that earned him a place among the trading elites. In the morning after Black Monday, while many currencies were reeling in the aftermath of the crash, Andy realized that some currencies were being overvalued.

He set his sights on the New Zealand dollar (“Kiwi”) and using options, he shorted the currency for hundreds of millions of dollars. The stake was too large that it outstripped the money supply in New Zealand.

The government of New Zealand tried to block the transaction but ultimately failed. The move worked out and Krieger made his employers (Bankers Trust) a whopping $300 million.

After parting ways with Banker’s Trust, he worked for George Soros at Quantum before moving on to Northbridge Capital Management.

Some people even speculate that he may be the enigmatic founder of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. It is an unfounded assumption, of course, but it goes to prove what sort of character he is.

How does The Big Big Trade Event Work?
