The Dark Pool Trader Summit Review
Introduction to The Dark Pool Summit
The Dark Pool Summit is an event hosted by Brit Herring and Matt McCall on behalf of InvestorPlace featuring Stefanie Kammerman.
They use the event to formally introduce Stefanie as the newest member of the InvestorPlace team.
They also use it to introduce her brand new service, Dark Pool Trader.
Besides introducing us to Stefanie and her new service, they also introduce us to the concept of Dark Pools, which forms the basis of her investment strategy.
Let’s take a closer look at what Dark Pools are and how she uses them to trade:

What is Dark Pool?
“Dark Pool” is a concept coined by Stefanie Kammerman.
She describes it as “one of Wall Street’s most sacred inner sanctums,” a place where she claims that you can record gains of 500%, 1,000%, or even 5,000% in a couple of days or even hours.
She says that dark pools enable her to make calculated calls that most other experts miss out on entirely.
Stefanie describes Dark Pools as private stock exchanges where the big investors (institutions) on Wall Street place their trades.
Before we proceed, note that Dark Pools should not be mistaken with Dark Money Spikes by Nomi Prins or Dark Money Payouts by Bryan Perry.
Going back to Stefanie’s Dark Pools, she claims that while regular investors buy stocks on public exchanges like the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ, institutional investors like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs transact in “separate exchanges.”
The reason they do that, she argues, has to do with the volumes they deal with.
Since they deal with shares in bulk, their transactions affect the prices of those shares even before their orders are filled.
Therefore, regulators allow them to trade separately in “Dark Pools” where their transactions remain hidden until their orders have been filled.

How she trades using Dark Pools
Stefanie claims that if you peer into those Dark Pools and learn what institutions are planning to trade, you can gain a significant advantage in your trading.
When institutions make moves, they cause significant pressure to build up.
So, if you monitor what they intend to do and act on it, you will be in a good position to make significant profits when the massive orders of those institutions get filled.
To take advantage of those trades, you don’t need to trade using a special brokerage account, the standard one (e.g. TD Ameritrade, Fidelity, and Schwab) will suffice.
Beyond that, she claims that Dark Pools can alert you to the direction in which a sector or the market as a whole is heading.
She says that you can tell that by monitoring the actions of institutional investors since they influence market movements – they account for a large percentage of trading happening.
To access the Dark Pools, she uses a trading terminal she created based on software that is usually used by major trading firms.
The terminal scans the entire market looking for the biggest trades.
To track those trades, she uses what she refers to as “prints.” This refers to the orders that are happening in the Dark Pools in real-time. These “prints” are detected by her Dark Pool Terminal.
Then, when she finds a good stock, she trades options to leverage her gains.
That way, she can turn a 7% gain in the underlying stock into many times that with an options trade.

Who is behind The Dark Pool Summit?
As I already mentioned, The Dark Pool Trader Summit was intended to introduce us to Stefanie Kammerman and her investment strategy.
So, let’s take a look at her background:
Stefanie Kammerman, known to her students as “The Stock Whisperer,” is a former Wall Street analyst. She joined Schonfeld Securities in 1994.
She learned about Dark Pools while she was working there from a trader whom she was working under.
She was running a trading desk by the time she quit in 1998 to start a family.
She got into music but was still trading independently from home.
She then got hired to teach students how to swing trade and now teaches people how to day trade and swing trade.
In addition to that, she just joined InvestorPlace where she will be editing The Dark Pool Trader newsletter.

Are Dark Pools Legit?
I think “Dark Pools” are legit because most of the predictions that Stefanie makes are publicly recorded.
You see, whenever Stefanie makes a prediction, she posts it on Twitter.
She makes it public to ascertain that she actually made the prediction.
Since Tweets are time-stamped, you can tell whether she made a call and when she made it (before or after the event she was predicting).
The Dark Pool Trader Summit Verdict
The Summit introduces us to what Stefanie Kammerman refers to as Dark Pools.
These are safe spaces for institutional investors to purchase or sell securities without affecting market prices before their orders have been filled.
She claims that she monitors these Dark Pools to monitor institutional activity to determine where stock prices are headed.
Since volume, rather than fundamentals, is the key to short term price movements, she uses institutional activity to invest in securities that will be affected by “big money” activity.
