Introduction to 5-Minute Fridays

5-Minute Fridays by Ken Trester

The “5-minute Fridays” presentation by Ken Trester is an advert for his research advisory service, Power Options Weekly.

During the presentation, he reveals how you can turn $5,000 into $40,000 in one month or how you can start making $4,647 every Friday.

You don’t have to go through the entire presentation to know that he was talking about trading options – he markets himself as the number one options trader, so that’s easy to infer.

Options are a favored hunting ground for many analysts for its advantages over trading the traditional financial instruments like stocks, currencies, and commodities.

I have reviewed many options-trading services in this blog, including Weekly Options AlertOptions Alert, and America’s First Options Millionaire Summit.

Some of these advantages are:

  • They are cheaper to buy; for example, with a few thousand dollars, you can afford more options overlying an expensive stock than the stock itself.
  • They deliver higher percentage returns than the underlying assets.
  • They may be less risky than the assets they cover

In Ken’s case, he is also interested in them because they have the potential to deliver quick gains, in a matter of hours or days.

For 5-minute Fridays, he targets newly listed options because he realized that they are not usually priced efficiently immediately they get into the market. This allows him to buy them at a lower price than they should be going for thus taking advantage of market inefficiency.

When the market prices them as it should, ken extracts a profit when he sells them at their true value.

Who is behind 5 Minute Fridays?

Ken Trester is an analyst, trader, author, and editor. He has been in the financial industry for 46 years. A majority of that time has been spent trading options – he started trading them when the first options exchange opened in 1973.

As such, he is an authority in options trading and has written three books on the subject: The Complete Option Player (now in its fourth edition), The Complete Option Report, and 101 Option Trading Secrets.

He publishes two options-based investment publications at InvestorPlace: Maximum Options and Power Options Weekly.

He was a computer science professor and also taught a popular course on options. That explains why he had the skill set to develop a trading algorithm called OPTION MASTER that enables average investors to check the true value of an option.

He is extensively quoted in publications like Barrons, and Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities.

How does 5-Minute Fridays Work?

Ken says that 5-Minute Fridays are all about the following three steps:

  • Follow his instructions and place the trade that he has recommended. These are typically options that are well-positioned to soar.
  • He tracks the trades and alerts you when you should close your position.
  • The third step is “make gains”

He says that he does all the heavy lifting for you behind the scenes with his proprietary algorithm. To be a part of this arrangement, you have to sign up for Power Options Weekly.

How he picks his trades

We have established that he targets options that are inefficiently priced… so, how does he find them?

He says that he learned about this anomaly four decades ago through a mathematical formula (it is actually the Black-Scholes formula). It enabled him to calculate the true value of an option taking into account 11 economic and market factors.

He then developed an algorithm that would help him implement his formula on thousands of options. With it, he found mispriced options, invested in them and then sold when their price coincided with their true value.

He picked Friday for his 5-minute trades because he realized that most of his biggest gains came on Fridays.

Is 5-Minute Fridays Legit?

5-Minute Fridays are legit but incredibly risky.

Going into it, you need to understand the market and the risks involved.

Whether you are trying your hand at Ken’s five-minute trades or trading options on your own, your money is not being stolen and you are not being defrauded.

Nevertheless, you should not take his words to heart and set unrealistic expectations; the results he quotes in the presentation are the rarities.

The average follower of his advice does not typically make such amounts.

If you look at it that way, you will take his advice as it is; generic advice that gives you a different perspective.

5-Minute Fridays Verdict

In joining Power Options Weekly, Ken Trester is promising you that he will be revealing opportunities to make thousands of dollars every week.

He intends to do that by revealing a new options trade recommendation every Friday, giving you a chance to make money in 5 minutes.

Alluring as that sounds – making thousands every week by trading – it may not pan out that way.

Instead, you will have some good and bad days even if you follow Ken’s recommendations to the letter.

That being said, I don’t think it is a bad idea to check out what Ken is recommending, just don’t go into it blindly.

I propose that you develop your trading methodology first, test it and then see how his strategy will fit into that.

That’s the only way you can sustainably make thousands every week.
